Retinal vessel leakage at high altitude.

چکیده
mony is a virtue to which all physicians should strive in the practice of medicine. However, we disagree with the statement in the article that “Both parsimonious medicine and rationing aim to reduce resource use.” The aim of medical parsimony is to provide the care necessary for the patient’s good, not to reduce resource use (although it may in addition preserve resources)—a difference in intention that helps form the foundation for the ethical distinction between parsimonious medicine and rationing. We suspect Tilburt and Cassel might agree because they note the role of beneficence and nonmaleficence in underpinning parsimony. But language is important, and in this case it should not confuse a well-developed rationale for parsimony in medical practice.

Missing correlation of retinal vessel diameter with high-altitude headache
The most common altitude-related symptom, high-altitude headache (HAH), has recently been suggested to originate from restricted cerebral venous drainage in the presence of increased inflow caused by hypoxia. In support of this novel hypothesis, retinal venous distension was shown to correlate with the degree of HAH. We quantified for the first time retinal vessel diameter changes at 4559 m usi...
متن کاملExtracting Vessel Centerlines From Retinal Images Using Topographical Properties and Directional Filters
In this paper we consider the problem of blood vessel segmentation in retinal images. After enhancing the retinal image we use green channel of images for segmentation as it provides better discrimination between vessels and background. We consider the negative of retinal green channel image as a topographical surface and extract ridge points on this surface. The points with this property are l...
متن کاملAutomated Detection of Leakage in Fluorescein Angiography Images with Application to Malarial Retinopathy
The detection and assessment of leakage in retinal fluorescein angiogram images is important for the management of a wide range of retinal diseases. We have developed a framework that can automatically detect three types of leakage (large focal, punctate focal, and vessel segment leakage) and validated it on images from patients with malarial retinopathy. This framework comprises three steps: v...
متن کاملRetinal vessel diameters in relation to hematocrit variation during acclimatization of highlanders to sea level altitude.
PURPOSE To examine variations in retinal vessel diameters during acclimatization of native highlanders to normobaric normoxia at sea level. METHODS Fifteen healthy residents of the greater La Paz region in Bolivia (3600 m above sea level) were examined thrice over a 72-day period, after having traveled by airplane to Copenhagen, Denmark, near sea level. RESULTS In the study subjects, hemato...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Retinal Image Processing Technique for Blood Vessel Segmentation
Blood vessel assessment from retinal images is an important factor for many eye related disease. Retinal blood vessel segmentation is done for identifying ophthalmic disease like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Glaucoma is a condition of elevated pressure within the eyeball, which causes gradual loss of sight. Diabetic retinopathy occurs due to damage of the tiny blood...
